The free movement of goods is one of the four freedoms of the single market of the European Union provided by The Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. The mutual recognition principle, which is enshrined in the Treaty, guarantees free movement of goods and services without the need to harmonise European Union member states' national legislation and prohibits any unjustified restrictions on intra-EU trade.
